World Wrestling Entertainment History
The WWE is the largest professional wrestling organization in the world. Vince McMahon is the majority owner of the business; his wife, Linda McMahon, is the CEO. His son, Shane McMahon is the Executive Vice President of Global Media and his daughter, Stephanie McMahon, is the Senior Vice President of Creative Writing.
Roderick McMahon and Raymond Mondt created Capitol Wrestling Corporation and joined the National Wrestling Alliance in 1953. In 1963, they left the NWA and formed the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) and in 1979, it became known as the World Wrestling Foundation (WWF). McMahon's first attempt to make the WWF national was to sign Hulk Hogan and then to sign a nemesis, Roddy Piper. He built a superstar roster that also included: Andre the Giant, Jimmy Snuka, Ricky Steamboat, Greg Valentine and The Iron Sheik. The original WrestleMania was held in 1985. The WWF developed into an incredible business headed up by McMahon and his hero, Hulk Hogan.
